Trelawnyd V.A school Newsletter April 2010
Dear Parents, April has been a busy month despite the fact that we have only been back at school for three weeks! We are well under way to organising the 150th anniversary celebrations and the first thing that we would ask you to help with is the grand raffle. We are hoping to raise enough money on the raffle to buy commemorative mugs for all the pupils and the rest will go towards much needed resources for school. You will receive ten books of tickets per family to be sold for £1 a book and we would be most grateful if you could sell them to immediate family and friends. The prizes are all excellent and I would like to thank Tina Jones for the donation of a week at her Florida Villa, Mr Jason Williams of Williams Estates for a £100 cash prize, Mr and Mrs Roberts (Mrs Hoose's Mum and Dad) for another £100 cash prize, Mrs Shelley Jones for a free eye test and designer glasses and Mrs Williams-Howell for a £50 cake voucher. An additional prize of a week in St Jean D’Alps (1 hr from Geneva) for this summer – subject to dates- has also kindly been donated by Mrs Merrifield and that will be auctioned on the evening as it does not appear on the tickets. The apartment sleeps 2 adults and 2 children and is located near mountains , lakes and swimming pool/sports facilities. Anybody interested in bidding early for that prize can contact me at school. There are many other smaller prizes of tickets for local attractions and services which PTA members have received locally.
In readiness for the 150th anniversary we decided to re-erect the school bell in the bell tower- full marks to all those who have noticed! Thanks go to David Ellis our community Governor and Mr Alex Wenger of B and W Builders who arranged for Dougie Jones (an ex pupil himself) to come and carry out the work free of charge. It looks fantastic and we are very grateful to B and W Builders for their support.
Pupils are preparing a presentation for the 150th anniversary and I would be grateful if all junior pupils could learn their words when they have them. I will be sending out a costume list next week , pupils will need to dress either as Victorian Children , 1940’s children , 1960-70’s or in modern clothes depending on which group they are in so hopefully you will have plenty of time to find suitable items. Not all pupils will have a significant part as it is centred on the memories of people in the community but I’m sure all pupils will enjoy the day and events.
General reminders: Can all boys wear Trunks/ sensible swimming shorts for swimming – not long baggy shorts, a request from the pool staff. All pupils are welcome to join the walk bus daily from the car park with myself and other staff volunteers; it is a fun and healthy way to start the day. It will be test week the week after next , pupils generally enjoy the tests and do their best, so please so not worry about them at home and just make sure your child is here on time having had a good sleep and breakfast. We use the results to decide where pupils need extension or support and to check their progress year on year.
The Head teachers award has been won this Month by Lilly Williams Howell, Joel Kemp Emily Richards and Lauren Ford Beddows. Well done to them all.
