Trelawnyd V.A School News – January 2012

Dear parents/Annwyl rhieni,

Happy New Year, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda,

Welcome back to the New Year at school, we hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas holiday. This is just a quick update regarding things that are going on over the coming half term.

Firstly we will be carrying out a nationally accredited survey of Pupils attitudes to self and school, the letter regarding the survey is on the rear of this newsletter. Another survey which you can log onto yourselves at home is a countywide survey about safeguarding children which you can log onto by following the link

We have received a letter from the Healthy schools team searching for Young MC's for the Flintshire Healthy school celebration of achievements awards on the 25th May. I’m sure some of our pupils would be quite successful in trying out for this role and if interested they need to write not more than 200 words outlining what presenter qualities they have and why they think they should be selected as host. The application has to be submitted by the 12th March and those shortlisted will be interviewed on the 19th March 2011.Pupils should come and see me if they would like and entry form. Some of our pupils have also applied to be in the North Wales ‘Criw celf’ which is a group for pupils who are talented at art; we hope they succeed with that.

We will be holding review meetings for pupils’ targets on Monday the 6th February from 12- 7 pm – appointments will be given out as usual. Later in that last week, on Thursday the 9th February, we will be holding the Annual Governors report to parents. This is an opportunity for you to meet with the Governing body and make suggestions or raise any concerns that you may have regarding provision at the school. There will be a disco for pupils at the same time – 6 -7 pm so there is no excuse not to attend, refreshments will be provided!

Finally could I ask all parents to make it their new year’s resolution not to be late bringing pupils to school. We have changed break times during the mornings and at lunchtime to make a little more space for the infants and so all pupils are able to come into school and start on the day’s tasks from 8.40 am onwards. It is better for pupils to be in school and settled and ready to work by 8.55 a.m , when pupils are late it can unsettle them and they are not sure about their tasks which affects their work. Most of the teachers have spent years having to get their own children to school on time so they know it’s a rush but it is very important.

I am continuing to work between Ysgol Yr Esgob at Carwys and here at Trelawnyd which is still working well, I am at both schools for an equal 2.5 days a week but obviously am available to either if I am needed at short notice.Mrs Read continues to be the Senior teacher in charge when I am off site. If anyone wants to contact me it is best to E mail from the website contact page or speak to Mrs Read regarding any non urgent matters.

Many thanks- J Borthwick and staff
